Road Block

So the cow thing may be a little trite to remark on. But that doesn't make it less unbelievable when you see it in its more extreme iterations. Gurgaon has three (maybe four but I think three) lane roads which are pretty modern and kind of a big deal. You can go at a good clip if you want to, not unlike a highway. The cows casually blocked the road today. And we had to wait for them to move when they pretty much felt like it. Wow.

Hey Guys,

Paul here. Next time you are at Connaught Place, Check out Kwality Reastaurant near the theatre. A little pricey by Indian standards but great food and better service. Are you into the lime soda's yet? Try one there. As far as weekend trips go..... EVERYTHING in India is at least six hours from EVERYTHING. I think the nearest hill station is Shimla (well worth going). From New Delhi, you are looking at 6-8 hours by train to Kalka and then another 10-12 hours on the toy train to Shimla. That's if they have repaired the kilometer of track that slid out last August.... If you haven't done so yet, the train is really cool. Just make sure you pay up for A/C class. Less for the climate and more for the lack of harrassment. The New Delhi train station is INSANE. Make sure to get your tickets upstairs at the Tourist Authority office. There is no sheisterism (touts, commissions, etc), the staff is VERY helpful, and you get your tickets right there. Make sure you know your platform number (which is susceptible to change). There's like 25 platforms!!!! Good luck. Wish we could visit for a couple weeks. We really miss it!!!!

P.S.

With regard to the cattle.... I was attacked three times by cattle in the streets of various towns. I don't know if it was my size, my color, or the fact that my Dad grew up on a cattle ranch, but one of them even got their horns into my legs. STEER clear (ha ha ha)!!!! It also just occurred to me that there is a morning/evening train combo that would let you see the Taj Mahal in one day and be back in Delhi for the evening. That is SUPER worth it. Just be careful because that train run is marked by thieves because of its tourist appeal. Damn I wanna go back. Looking at your pics gives me the jones.....

I would imagine that you aren't saying "cute...look at the cows" much anymore. Love the new improvements on your site, especially the countdown till your return. I'm trying to figure out how I can use a counter for something on my site...good work people!

Hi. I was just wondering what it is you do for a living out in India? I came across your blog on the expat exchange website and am really enjoying your "countdown." My husband has been offered a relocation package to India, although, as yet, we're unsure of the exact location. So I'm doing my bit and finding out as much as I can on the net. Keep up the good work with the cooking, by the way!

Hi,

So a couple of things. Paul Mungas, can you ealborate on the lime sodas? I think I want to be in. The and Anna, I am going to be doing voice modulation (training) for a local company. I hope I like it. Here is my email if you guys want to respond off-blog. tuna_on_ rye@yahoo.com. Yeah, I know it's dumb, but it's also mnemonic. -Joe
