BOOMTOWN

So we wrote about it briefly before. Gurgaon is a city that is being built almost overnight. Five years ago there was nothing here but peacocks. Below you can see three images from our neighborhood that I took pictures of today. Amazing. In the next day or two I will take some photos of a few of the many highrises that are being built within a few blocks of our apartment complex. Within 50 feet of each of them are corrugated shacks like you see below.

One of perhaps two dozen shopping malls in Gurgaon. I would also like to mention that it is hard to price things here. The market is what you can get for it. Water for example. I went to a store the other day and someone tried to charge me 90 rupees for a liter of water. Today I went to another store and was charged 12 rupees. No one know what to charge or what to pay. In some ways, it's like the Wild West of the United States in the 19th century.
