Raspberrys
That's right, these are called raspberrys here (the sign said 'ruseberries'). The thing is, they actually kind of taste like raspberries even though they look more like little tomatoes.
Even though they look like they grow in bunches like grapes, on closer inspection (see bottom photo) we realized they are all manually tied together with string.
That wouldn't be that shocking if there was only one or a few in existence. However, they're in huge quantities in every store and fruit/vegetable stand.

I wasn't sure if you'd figured out what these things are yet so just wanted to comment. They're called cape gooseberries or physalis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physalis
Not unique to India, first saw them in a farmer's market in upstate NY, in fact. Interesting to see them on your blog (which is very interesting btw)!
