Who Are We?

A friend of ours is, to put it mildly, a HUGE fan of the Welsh football team, Swansea City AFC. While we were at the Pakistani-Indian border watching the daily closing of the border, he had the idea of asking one of the border guards to stand with us with the Swansea City (AKA Jack Army) flag. Great idea except we do not speak a lot of Hindi (me none) and the Border Guard did not speak English. If you think about it, that flag could have said anything. Given the current and historical relationship between these two countries, we were lucky we did not spend the next couple of days as guests of the Indian Border Security Forces. These guys don't mess around. At least I felt lucky, Phil was too busy laughing his #$^% off.

Dear Joe and Kristina:

I hope this finds you both well.

My name is Yoyce and I am so pleased to have come across your blog as I am going to accept an offer this evening to move from New York City to work at Evaluserve in Gurgoan, Haryana India in January.

I have so many questions about the place. I have been to both India and Bangladesh at the turn of the century, however, I understand things have developed and have changed rapidly in that time.

I hope that I will be able to ask you a few questions about your experiences as you have made the move there successfully.

I am most interested about the cost of rent and the living standards in order to ascertain if I will be able to find my own place with studen loan obligations, etc. (rather than living in the company compound with new people with, perhaps, different ideas of hygiene).

Moreover, I'm all about my personal privacy.

A little about me: I graduate Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (May 2008). I am a black American, 28 years old, a graduate of Amherst College (2004).

I will be a Senior Financial editor of equities research reports for Evalueserve and I have been recently a financial journalist with Institutional Investor.

I don't know how far my monthly salary will go there but I hope you can provide a little perspective.

My email address is yaj3@columbia.edu

I thank you for your time and consideration. I also love reading your blog.

Kind regards,

Yoyce Apollo Jones
