Gurgaon Bazaar

So there are two Gurgaons. The one everyone sees in the newspapers and on television where all the malls are. The one that has the Crowne Plaza, The Trident Hotel, the newly opened IBIS Hotel, etc. The one that companies (Google, Dell, Eli Lily, Ernst & Young to name a few) have opened offices resulting in the generation of lots of jobs and corresponding money. It is also the one that young urban wealthy New Delhi-ites come to party.

Then there is the other one. The one that existed before people realized that New Delhi needed a place in close proximity to branch out and Gurgaon fit the bill perfectly. That's where we went the other day. We went to the Bazaar in Old Gurgaon in search of textiles. People were staring at us which makes sense. They stared kind of unabashedly, in fact. We were the only westerners in sight for the many blocks that comprise the market and westerners overwhelmingly go to the the more modern and posh sections of Gurgaon. I am not one hundred percent positive, but I am pretty sure you can get anything made here to order (clothing wise) for a song. Speaking if which, if you see anything you like (textiles wise), let us know. We were at one store looking at cloth and the owner very casually offered to have a tailor sent over. I might give a shot as an experiment next time.
