This Weekend

Well, we did manage to get to Delhi yesterday after some complications with our driver who didn't show and was unreachable. I'm hoping that the people in our relocation department don't get fed up with too many calls on the weekends. But they were able to secure another driver for us. We went to a market called Dilli Haat which was nice although it was a bit difficult to ward off the vendors and leisurely walk around. We bought a very cool backgammon board so we have something to do when the monsoon rains keep us inside. Then we went to Joe's school in Hauz Khas Market to finalize some paperwork. We walked around there for awhile and found a used bookstore and an organic food shop. After that, we went to the Taj Palace Hotel for drinks and dinner. I thought Joe would want to see it because it was our other option for residence here. He says he doesn't regret the decision to get an apartment instead and I hope that's true. The hotel is really amazing. Then we came home and decided to walk down the road a bit by our house and we found a great place for drinks and food. We're so happy to have a place close by. We met some interesting people from Dublin which was really nice. Today we stayed home. I worked for awhile, we watched movies, and are still trying to get comfortable with lighting our stove with a lighter every time we want to use a burner and doing the laundry outside on the balcony. It's all harder to get used to than I might have guessed, but we'll get there.

Hey folks,

This is Paul Mungas. I worked with Joe 5 years ago in SF. My girl, Kim, and I toured north/west India for 5 weeks last August/Sep. Your blog is going to be really ionteresting for us. We have been to a couple places you have mentioned, but we certainly will have shared some of your cultural experience going forward. Are you there on business or pleasure? Either way, enjoy. India is at once the most magical and frustrating place you can be. Unforgettable. Especially for us. We had our first child May 9. Our daughter was conceived in Jodphur and is named India Pearl. Good luck going forward. We'll be checking in. Eat lots of Thalis!!!!

Glad to see from the photos that you actually have a washer and dryer -- when you mentioned laundry on the balcony I imagined you were doing it by hand and hanging it on the railing! But electrical appliances outside during monsoon season? Sounds a tad too adventurous for me...

Congratulations, Paul!!! What a great story! We're actually here for business and pleasure. We'll be sure to get some info out here about both. And we'd love to hear more about your experiences while you were here. We're currently in the frustrating stage and hoping the magical is right around the corner.

As far as working our appliances outside, I guess we'll have to see how that goes. (The gas tank for the stove is out there too.) Maybe that's partly why so many people employ so many servants - self preservation???
